article 3: A Praeludium by William Byrd?
This Praeludium is found in a manuscript transcribed by one William Forster, otherwise unknown, and finished in 1624, a year after Byrd's death. He seems to have had access to a collection of Byrd's late keyboard works, some of which he transmits anonymously. Such is the case with this Praeludium, but there is no other source which can confirm Byrd's authorship. I certainly think Byrd wrote it, and would have included it in my CD of Byrd's complete Fantasias and Preludes - but we ran out of space on the disc.
